Description

Cuvestrequin is a waterproof topical barrier gel designed to protect irritated or broken skin in horses and provide a practical alternative to conventional wound bandaging. It instantly forms a waterproof barrier layer, and gradually sets into a physical layer, which means horses can go back to their normal routines if appropriate instead of having to be on stall rest with bandages. It is easy to apply and safe to use. As it is made from sustainably sourced food and feed grade ingredients, it is biodegradable, gradually dries and naturally flakes off.

Cuvestrequin was founded at the University of Cambridge with extensive field studies, it is an innovative gel barrier and may be considered as an alternative option to other topical antimicrobials.

Benefits of Cuvestrequin:

  • Protects the site – The barrier gel forms a hydrophobic physical layer that protects your horse against maceration, debris, flies, and environmental contaminants.
  • Resists the formation of Biofilm – Helps protect the healing environment from microbial contamination.
  • Easy to apply – Formulated as a non-drip gel that easily shapes to the site, with no bandage rubbing risk.
  • Safe to use – Designed to gradually dry and flake off naturally.
  • Versatile – Effective with sites that are high-motion, areas that aren’t easy to bandage, broken skin, post-surgical sites, and a variety of conditions.

Why use Cuvestrequin over Traditional Bandages or Topical Antimicrobials?

Saves Time, Waste, & Money

Using Cuvestrequin to manage equine affected sites instead of bandages saves time, waste, material, and money. It is also biodegradable as it dries and flakes away.

Keeps Horses Active and Comfortable

Horses are able to get back to their normal routines with Cuvestrequin, they don’t need to be stabled to protect bandages and can be turned out in the field.

Effective Option instead of Bandaging

The small layer of barrier gel protects broken skin in areas where bandaging may not be an option, and as time goes on, Cuvestrequin can be a great tool for ongoing protection after bandaging has been stopped.

Composition

Composed of a natural polymer and metal ions, in an ethanol base.

How to use:

Site Preparation

  1. The body area should be clipped, cleaned, lavaged and debrided (as required) to ensure all debris and foreign material has been removed – for best results.
  2. Dry the area before applying.

Application

  1. Wearing gloves, dispense the gel onto your fingers.
  2. Apply Cuvestrequin gel in a thin even layer over the affected area.
  3. Allow the area to dry initially for 60 seconds, at which point Cuvestrequin is already waterproof.
  4. Keep your horse in the stable or yard area for 1 hour prior to rugs or tack being used to allow the gel to fully set and reduce the risk of the items rubbing it off or transferring to them.
  5. If Cuvestrequin is applied to a foot or heel area, keep the horse off any bedding material for an hour after applying.
