FAQ’s
What are Earthrated compostable bags made from?
Natural corn starch bio-resins which in moist conditions degrade to carbon dioxide and water without leaving harmful residues in the process. They are certified to strict international standards.
How do I dispose of compostable poop bags afterwards?
If your local commercial composting facility accepts them, send them there. If they are sent to landfill they will still break down quicker than full plastic but will take a lot longer. Alternatively, you could compost them at home into a composting system that won’t be used for the fruit and veggie patch, bacteria in dog waste is toxic. It’s best to keep this compost for flowers and trees only.
Making your own compost system is simple- all you need is a bucket, a spade, soil and some worms..
How long do they take to compost?
Around 90-180 days in a composting environment depending on whether its home composting or Commercial composting.
Are they flushable?
No! As a general rule, stay away from flushing your dog’s poop with or without a bag. It really depends on what water treatment plant your waste goes to, but flushing dog poop can upset water balance due to the high levels of BOD (biological oxygen deprivation).
What is the shelf life of Earthrated compostable poop bag products?
When compared to traditional oil-based packaging, plant-based packaging has a shorter shelf life of around 12 months. We recommend storing the products in a cool, dry area and out of direct sunlight.
What is the difference between the Earthrated green degradable and white compostable poop bags?
Degradable bags are made from “normal” polyethylene, they are still a petroleum-based plastic bag but contain a degradable additive known as TDPA (totally degradable plastic additives). This helps the bags break down into smaller pieces when exposed to sunlight, heat and oxygen.
Compostable bags are like biodegradable materials, they both return to the earth safely.
Certified compostable bags begin decomposing from the first day in a compost pile and take around 90 days to break down leaving no harmful residues in the process.
These are more environmentally sustainable than degradable bags.
