Why Stevie

A fund in memory of our ambassador

Stevie was Dr Becs' much loved dog and the face of Vetpost for years. As a young pup she needed vet care to get her chance at a happy life, and she got it.

We lost Stevie five years ago, and we still miss her every day. The Stevie Fund is how we keep her story going: helping other Kiwi families when a vet bill lands at the worst possible time.

How it works

Two pets helped every month

1

Nominate your pet

From 4 November, tell us your pet's story and upload a recent vet bill or estimate.

2

Friends and family vote

Share your pet's page. Anyone can vote with their email address, once per round.

3

Two pets are chosen

Dr Becs chooses one pet and your votes choose the People's Choice. Each gets up to $1,000 towards their vet bill.

4

A new round every month

Rounds close at 8pm NZT on the last day of each month, then it all starts again.

Which vet bills count

The basics

Bills that count

  • From a New Zealand vet clinic
  • Dated no more than 90 days before voting closes for that round
  • For treatment already done, or treatment booked within 30 days after the round closes
  • The part your pet insurance doesn't cover, like your excess

Bills that don't

  • Any amount your insurance pays
  • Elective procedures, like desexing, routine vaccinations and checkups, cosmetic procedures, and breeding or pregnancy care, unless Dr Becs decides it's medically needed

WHY IT’S CALLED THE STEVIE FUND

A PUP NOBODY WAS GOING TO PAY FOR

In 2012, a ranger from the local Aboriginal community carried a six week old pup into Dr Becs’ clinic in Broome, Western Australia. She’d been attacked by another dog. She had no owner, and no one to pay for her care.

Dr Becs gave her a chance anyway. A drip, a splint, weeks of physio and ocean swims in a little lifejacket later, Stevie ran into her arms on all four legs. She never left.

The Stevie Fund gives that same chance to Kiwi pets, one every month.

Our Vetpost Ambassador

Stevie

Rescued by Dr Becs as a six-week-old pup in 2012, Stevie spent her life by our side with those great big ears and an attitude to match. She’s helping us celebrate our birthdayΒ  and the reason we do what we do.
