How Does It Work?

Once Bravecto spot-on is administered, it is readily absorbed into the dog’s bloodstream from the skin. The active ingredient, fluralaner, then distributes and persists for 6 months. It works inside the dog, providing nose-to-toes protection. Due to its systemic profile Bravecto is suitable for dogs who swim or are bathed regularly. It is recommended dogs are not washed or shampooed within 3 days of treatment.

How to Apply

Bravecto is designed to be child-safe with a twist-n-use cap. The cap does not come off.

• Step 1
  Remove Bravecto from its child-safe packaging.
• Step 2
  Hold the tube straight up and give the cap one twist to break the seal.
  Please do not attempt to remove the cap, as it does not come off.
• Step 3
  Ensure the animal’s back is horizontal. Part the hair and apply directly to the skin.
• Step 4
  For very small and small dogs, apply in two spots. For medium-sized dogs, apply in three spots. For large and very large dogs, apply in four spots along the back.

Can my dog swim or be bathed after application?

Do not wash or allow your dog to swim within 3 days after treatment.

I used Bravecto Spot-on 2 days ago and my dog still has fleas?

An environmental infestation may persist for some weeks after initial treatment due to the development of immature stages and the emergence of adult fleas from the environment. As adult fleas emerge and contact treated animals, they will be killed.

Where do I place the Bravecto Spot-on on my dog?

Apply the entire contents of the tube directly to the dog’s skin in 1 to 4 spots along the dog’s spine from the shoulder to the base of the tail (see diagram to left). Avoid the application of an
excessive amount of solution at any one spot as it may run or drip off the dog.

Why does Bravecto spot-on for dogs last longer than Bravecto chew?

Bravecto spot-on for dogs has a unique formulation which gives it extended duration compared to the chew. This includes differences in absorption when Bravecto is applied topically compared to when it is administered orally.

Why does Bravecto spot-on for dogs last longer than Bravecto spot-on for cats?

The topical absorption profile is different in cats compared to dogs. In addition, fluralaner is metabolised and excreted more rapidly in cats than dogs.

Can I use Bravecto spot-on for dogs in growing, large breed puppies?

MSD recommends the use of Bravecto chew for rapidly growing, large breed puppies, due to the shorter treatment interval allowing more flexible and accurate dosing.

How can I choose between Bravecto chew and spot-on for dogs?

Every pet owner and dog has specific needs and preferences. Some dogs are picky eaters, others won’t sit still for a spot-on treatment. Some owners prefer the longest possible protection from one treatment, others may prefer to administer flea and tick treatment every 3 months alongside other pet care routines such as intestinal wormers. Bravecto is available in both a spot-on and chew, ensuring there is always long-lasting protection available to suit your client’s needs.

What are the advantages of long-lasting treatment versus monthly treatments?

Eighty-eight percent of pet owners say Bravecto is more convenient than a monthly treatment. Gaps in protection can occur when pet owners do not administer flea treatments at the correct treatment interval. Bravecto ensures compliance for an extended period with just one dose, helping your clients to drive fleas to extinction in their homes.

Safety

Please note Bravecto Spot-on should be used for dogs from 8 weeks of age only.
Puppies should be weighed regularly. Fast-growing puppies may outgrow the initial weight band during the inter-dosing interval. Treatment may be appropriately adapted by the veterinarian to suit the individual weight changes.

Fluralaner is part of the isoxazoline family of chemicals. Adverse reactions to this family of chemicals are rarely observed but may include vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, inappetence, itching and very rarely neurological signs including tremors, ataxia and seizures. Most adverse reactions are self-limiting and of short duration. If you have any concerns, please speak to your veterinarian.

Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures. Seizures have been reported in dogs receiving fluralaner, even in dogs without a history of seizures.
