Q. Which animals can AlphaTrak 3 be used for?
A. The AlphaTrak 3 system has been calibrated for use in monitoring blood glucose samples in dogs and cats using species-specific test codes.

Q. Can other test strips or solution be used?
A. Only AlphaTrak 3 test strips and AlphaTrak 3 control solution should be used. Using previous versions of the AlphaTrak test strips or other brands of test strips and control solution with the AlphaTrak 3 meter can produce inaccurate results.

Q. How do I select and prepare a blood test site in cats and dogs?
A. To prepare the test site:
1. Select a test site appropriate for the species being tested:
Marginal ear vein Paw pad Leg callus Inner lip

2. Warming the area will help increase blood flow. Do this by gently rubbing the test site or
applying a warm (not hot) cloth to the test site. If using a wet cloth, first place the cloth inside a plastic bag to avoid diluting the blood sample.
3. Wash your hands and the test site with warm water and soap to ensure accurate results.
Thoroughly dry your hands and the test site.

Q. How much blood is required for a test?
A. A laboratory study has demonstrated that AlphaTrak 3 requires a minimum blood volume of 0.3 µL to
produce accurate results.

Q. When should I perform a control solution test?
A. A control solution test should be performed with every new pack of strips. It allows you to practice testing without using animal blood, confirm that the meter and test strips are working properly, or to verify spurious blood glucose test results. It may be advisable to perform a control solution test before performing a blood glucose curve.
